INTRODUCTION LETTER TO PARENTS – School teachers can benefit greatly by writing an introduction letter to parents and students.  These letters need not be elaborate or cost lots of money or time.  As outlined by buzzle… “becasue teachers are involved so much in the lives of their students, it is important for them to communicate with the parents on a regular basis. An introductory letter to parents from new teacher at the beginning of any school year is very important to develop a communication with the parents for the rest of the year. An introduction letter by the teacher enables the teacher to create a good impression on the parents as they realize that the teacher is genuinely interested in the growth of their children. It also helps in making the parents comfortable to talk to the teacher about the problems that their children face. Though there are so many benefits of writing an introduction letter to parents from new teacher, not many teachers know as to what exactly they should write to make a good impression on the parents. Therefore, here are some important points that you have to keep in mind while writing an introduction letter to parents.

Introduction Letter to Parents (and students) from New Teacher

The introduction letter to parents from new teacher is a way of welcoming the students and parents to one’s class and hence, the tone of the letter should be very polite. The letter should make the students and parents excited for starting the new academic year with the teacher. However, teachers should see to it that the letter is written in a formal as well as professional way. Read more on letter writing and how to write a formal letter.

In the beginning of the letter, the teacher should introduce herself to the parents by mentioning her educational background as well as about her previous experience. The teacher can talk about where she attained her teacher’s degree from and also about how many years she has been working as a teacher in the same school or some other school. Mentioning whether the teacher was in some other profession before becoming a teacher is also a good idea. It is also fine to write about the teacher’s additional qualifications and whether she is currently pursuing some course.

The next part of the letter should be used to discuss what students and parents can expect during the upcoming school year. Here, one can also mention one’s teaching style and also talk briefly about the syllabus that will be covered during the year. One can also mention the activities that will be taking place in the class as well as in the school like projects, picnics, educational trips, etc. This helps in developing the students’ enthusiasm and they will surely look forward to start the new year in school. One can also discuss some specific things or concerns like homework, studies, etc. in this letter.

The letter must end by encouraging the parents to communicate with the teacher, if they feel the need to do so. It is important to mention the time during which the parents can come to meet the teacher in school. Mentioning the teacher’s email id is a good way of telling the parents that the teacher is welcome to hear from them about the concerns they have about their children. Communication through email makes teacher-parent interaction on a daily basis, easier.

Dear Parents,

My name is Andrew Johnson.  I am your child’s 5th grade teacher this year and I look forward to working with you both on your child’s education.  I graduated from the University of New York with a Masters in History and later did my research in childhood development.  I have been teaching in the Elementary school system for over 15 years, though I have been working at Longfellow Elementary for the past seven years. I am interested in reading and have my own blog which I see as a window to express my opinions. Apart from that, I am always on a quest to meet new people and learn about their language and culture.

I look forward to meeting and working with both you and your child this coming school year.  This year looks to be a challenging one but I already have coursework that will make it the most interesting and exciting year yet for our students. Moreover, I do not just want to stick to academics. Rather I am planning activities to develop the student’s creative skills and interests. I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.

I would be happy to meet at your convenience to discuss your child’s performance or any other problems that he/she is facing in class.  It will be appreciated if you inform me a day in advance to fix the meeting time.  Apart from this, you can also email me at AJJP125@Longfellow123.com to discuss any concern you have about your child.

Yours Sincerely,
(Signature)
Andrew Johnson
